Oooh boy.
Ethiopia.
It has always been my dream to go to Africa. I never really thought too much about where, exactly, IN Africa, but the continent as a whole has always fascinated me. The origins of our species, the scorched earth, the deserts, savannas, jungles, the people.
And finally, the Peace Corps has given me an opportunity to walk here.
A long, not always easy application process done with, I'm now just about a week away from moving to Ethiopia for 27 months. That'll include 3 months of training sessions, language immersion, etc. followed by 2 years as a secondary English teacher. It's strange, going with a program that is so well structured compared to my usual hop-on-a-plane-and-see method. I'll have to keep in mind that while there, I am a representative of not only the Peace Corps but of America. That's kind of daunting. But the assurance of having such an organization supporting me is fantastically calming.
One of my commitments as a Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) is to share what I learn about Ethiopia with Americans and others. As Thomas Jefferson urged Lewis & Clark's expedition (which he called the Corps of Discovery) to write frequently, I figure keeping up this old blog would be a great way to keep some folks back home enlightened.*
I want you to ask questions!
What are you interested in, what do you want to know about Ethiopia? Please, don't be afraid to ask!Look for new blog posts on my FB page. If you don't have or use FB, you can send me an email so that I forward you any new posts. I would be so honored if you would actually read, even just once!
*The past-participle of enlighten should defo be enlit
Stay enlit, my friends!
